Support Worker

Grade: Band 2

Reports To: Interchange Manager

Job purpose

To work closely with the Interchange Manager providing her with a variety of support to enable her to fulfil her role in spite of her severe visual impairment.

The Interchange Managers role involves the management and support of a Flex Team/Flex Teams to deliver the Interchange Operating Model.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate an ability to take initiative as well as follow instruction in order to provide a holistic, high standard of support.
  • To assist the Interchange Manager with Flex Team members. This will include assisting in the preparation before sessions by providing accurate information from caseloads/ performance reports and highlighting any apparent deficits.
  • Ensure effective communication within the Flex Team, within the Organisation and to external partners by sending emails/letters on behalf of the Interchange Manager as directed.
  • To monitor and manage email communication sent to the Interchange Manager ensuring that her attention is drawn to urgent or priority tasks.
  • Assisting the Interchange Manager in the management of her diary and where applicable, transporting and accompanying her to external meetings/venues.
  • To, where possible, provide the Interchange Manager with documentation and information in a format she can access. Where this is not possible, to read the information to the Interchange Manager to ensure that she is fully appraised of the detail.
  • To fully support the Interchange Manager in regular monitoring and auditing of operational practice through navigating and reviewing internal systems in order to provide the information she requires.
  • To navigate internal systems and provide the Interchange Manager with administrative tasks including scanning, printing and photocopying.
  • To fully comply with Data Protection and Information Security policies, including maintaining confidentiality of any sensitive information you may be privy to.
  • To take notes and provide an accurate record of a variety of internal and external meetings.
  • To work flexibly and sometimes remotely to ensure that the Interchange Manager can fulfil the demands placed upon them.
  • To support the Interchange Manager's visual deficits by alerting them to potential hazards which may impact on their health and safety as well as alerting them to any visual clues which she may not pick up on eg. Subtle team dynamics, colleagues waving 'hello'.
  • Perform other duties commensurate with the post as defined by the Line Manager, Director or above.

Excellent verbal and written communication

Microsoft Office and Excel skills


Working as a support worker with experience of visual impairment would be a distinct advantage.

Attention to detail and able to identify inaccuracies effectively

It is also desirable to have the ability:

About the company

The role is based at Wirral Probation Centre and is placed on behalf of Merseyside Rehabilitation Company.


We are looking for an experienced Support Worker to work from our office in Wirral. This role is offered on a 3 month contract which may be extended if required. 37.5 hours per week, 5 days per week between 8am and 6pm depending on Interchange Managers requirements.

Due to the nature of the work for this role the successful candidate will be required to apply for a Basic Disclosure through the Disclosure Scotland.
